Hollin & Pegg

About us

Started with one van and the jobs nobody would quote for

In 2014 Dan Hollin was a joiner and Rosie Pegg ran a lettings office. Rosie had a drawer full of small jobs for her landlords that no trade wanted: a dripping tap, a sticking door, a blind that had come down. Dan started doing them on Saturdays. By the summer it was his whole week.

Why the prices are fixed

Rosie's idea was simple. If the same jobs come up week after week, we should know how long they take, and if we know how long they take, we can tell people the price before we arrive. Every job on our list has a time that came from doing it hundreds of times, and the price comes from the time.

The half-day and full-day rates came later, when customers started saving up lists. A long list should cost less per hour than a single tap, so we price every visit three ways and charge the cheapest.

Why everyone is employed

There are six of us now. Nobody is subcontracted, everyone is trained on the same list of jobs, and everyone carries the same kit in the van. That is what lets us put a price on a job before we know which of us is doing it.

What every visit looks like

The same four steps, whoever comes and whatever is on the list.

  • Send the list

Add your jobs to the basket, or send photos. You see the price and the earliest slot straight away.

  • We confirm the slot

A text within a working hour with the date, the arrival window and the name of who is coming.

  • The visit

Dust sheets down, the plan agreed with you, then the jobs worked through in order. Spare time goes on extras.

  • Pay when it is done

You check every job before we leave. Card on the day or a bank transfer within seven days.
