Shelves, curtain poles and blinds

from

£56

About 40 minutes a shelf, 45 minutes a pole or blind

Floating shelves, bracket shelves, alcove shelving, curtain poles, tracks and blinds, put up level, at the height you choose, into fixings that will hold what you put on them.

Priced jobs in this group

Several jobs? A half day is £190 and a full day £340, if that works out cheaper.

Shelves are where a cheap wall plug shows itself, usually a month later with everything on the floor. We pick the fixing for what the shelf will carry, not for what it weighs empty.

Alcoves and long runs

Alcove shelves on battens are a classic job in Worcester’s older terraces. Alcove walls are rarely square, so we scribe each shelf to the wall rather than leaving a gap at the back. Long runs of bracket shelving get a laser line so every bracket sits on the same level.

Poles, tracks and blinds

A curtain pole should be wider than the window, high enough that the curtains clear the sill and centred on the glass, not on the wall. We hold it up for you to see before we mark anything. Bay-window tracks take longer and are priced as two poles.

Included

  • Fixings chosen for the load, since books, plates and records weigh more than people expect
  • A level line marked and checked with you before drilling
  • Curtain poles centred on the window with the brackets clear of the window reveal
  • Blinds cut to width in your home where the kit allows

Not something we do

  • Supplying shelves, poles or blinds (bring yours, or we buy them at cost)
  • Bespoke built-in joinery; we refer you to a carpenter

Job HP-4417, Barbourne: half-day rate, £190

“The basket said £190 and the invoice said £190. The shelves are level, which is more than I managed in two attempts.”

Questions about shelves, curtain poles and blinds

How much weight can a floating shelf take?
Into brick or block with a proper floating-shelf bracket, 15 to 25 kg along a 90 cm shelf. On plasterboard, only if we can fix into the studs. We tell you before we fit it.
Can you cut a blind down to size?
Most roller and Venetian blinds can be cut down in your home. Roman blinds and wooden slats usually cannot, so check the size before you order.
