TV and mirror hanging

from

£56

Most TVs take about 75 minutes, cables hidden

Wall-mounted TVs up to 75 inches, heavy mirrors, picture groups and coat racks, fixed into whatever your wall is made of and checked level before we leave.

Priced jobs in this group

Several jobs? A half day is £190 and a full day £340, if that works out cheaper.

A TV on the wall is the job we do most, and the one most often done twice. A bracket pulled out of plasterboard, a set of holes two centimetres too low, a cable dangling down the middle of a freshly painted wall. We get it right the first time by doing the slow part first.

How we do it

Before any drilling we scan the wall for cables and pipes and find out what it is made of. A Victorian terrace in St John’s can have lime plaster on brick on one wall and lath and plaster on the next. The fixing changes with the wall, so the price does not.

We hold the TV (or a cardboard template of it) where you want it and you sit where you watch from. Most people want it lower than they think. Then we mark, drill, fix and hang, and tidy the cables into slim white trunking that you can paint over.

Mirrors and pictures

Heavy mirrors go up on a French cleat or two mirror plates screwed into the wall, never on a single picture hook. For a picture group we lay the frames out on the floor first, measure the gaps, and transfer the plan to the wall with low-tack tape so you can see it before a single hole is made.

Included

  • Finding cables and pipes in the wall before we drill
  • Fixings matched to the wall (brick, block, plasterboard or lath and plaster)
  • Cables tidied into white trunking, or hidden in a stud wall where it allows
  • A level check with you in the room before we drill the last hole

Not something we do

  • New sockets or aerial points (we refer you to an electrician)
  • Mounting on a chimney breast with a live flue behind it

Job HP-4417, Barbourne: half-day rate, £190

“The basket said £190 and the invoice said £190. The shelves are level, which is more than I managed in two attempts.”

Questions about tv and mirror hanging

Can you hang a TV on plasterboard?
Yes, up to about 32 kg with the right cavity fixings, or any weight if we can find the timber studs behind the board. We tell you which before we start.
Do I need to buy the bracket?
You can. If you would rather not, we bring a tilting bracket that fits most TVs from 32 to 65 inches and charge it at cost, from £35.
How many pictures can you hang in an hour?
A group of six to eight on one wall usually takes an hour including setting them out on the floor first. Heavy mirrors take about 30 minutes each.
